Congratulations The City of Etowah!CITY OF ETOWAH RECEIVES $1.387 MILLION GRANT FOR HISTORIC CARNEGIE LIBRARY RENOVATION
ETOWAH, TN - The City of Etowah has been awarded a $1.387 million Community Connected Facilities Grant through the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) to renovate the entire first floor of the historic Etowah Carnegie Library.
The grant will fund comprehensive renovations to modernize the library's main floor while preserving its historic character. This investment will enhance the library's ability to serve as a vital community hub for education, technology access, health monitoring and public programming.
"This grant represents a transformative opportunity for our historic Carnegie Library and the entire Etowah community," said Russ Blair, Etowah City Manager. “The lamp posts on each side of the front entrance, which still remain today, were part of the original Carnegie design intended to light the way to knowledge. These renovations will ensure our library continue to serve the evolving needs of our residents while honoring its architectural heritage."
The Etowah Carnegie Library, built in 1915 by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, is one of Tennessee's last remaining Carnegie libraries and has served as a cornerstone of community learning for generations. The renovation project will focus on improving accessibility, updating technology infrastructure, and creating flexible spaces for community programs and events.
The Connected Communities Facilities Grant Program is funded by the ARPA Capital Project Fund (CPF). Projects must be completed by December 30, 2026.
