Athens, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, along with Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter and DENSO officials, announced today the company’s significant expansion in Athens. DENSO will establish additional manufacturing operations, featuring 54,560 square feet of new production space and renovations to existing facilities.
This expansion will create 200 new jobs at DENSO’s Athens location and involves a $100 million investment, reinforcing the company’s position as the largest employer in McMinn County.
For nearly three decades, DENSO has been the cornerstone of manufacturing in McMinn County, focusing on the production of key components for vehicle ignition, exhaust, and gasoline delivery systems. This expansion helps diversify their product line and prepare for the future.
With this expansion, the Athens site will grow to a total of 879,000 square feet, allowing the 1,444 employees to manufacture a broader range of DENSO’s product offerings, including the latest in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technology. This new HVAC system enhances passenger comfort while improving the efficiency of traditional, hybrid, and electric vehicles.
This development exemplifies DENSO’s commitment to optimizing its manufacturing network to meet the evolving needs of mobility and aligns with the company’s mission to contribute to a better world.
