River Town Festival Cardboard Regatta @ Hiwassee Blueway July 26, 2025 10 a.m. Ages 8 through Adult Entry Form, Rules and Regulations Race Rules ▪ Safety First- All Sailors MUST wear a Coast Guard approved personal Floatation Device. ▪ Children 13 and under must have adult parent/guardian present as they set sail. ▪ Proper signatures on the registration form are required to race. ▪ Keep it in the boat- During the competition you must be in the boat, not towing it, swimming, using life jackets to provide flotation to vessel. ▪ No four-legged stowaways. No Pets Allowed. ▪ Obey maritime law. Keep it civil. No intentional splashing your competition or attempting to impede others in any way. Incidental contact and splashing may occur, however, you will be disqualified if these actions are intentional. Unsafe or detrimental behavior will also be grounds for disqualification. ▪ Each competitor MUST remove their entire boat or salvage all of its remains and personal items from the river. A receptacle will be made available for these materials to be disposed of. Construction Guidelines Boat Design & Construction: • Boats must be made BEFORE THE RACE. • Boats must be made ONLY of cardboard and duct tape. NO reinforced cardboard tubes, only broken down cardboard boxes or sheets of cardboard. • Cardboard cannot be sealed with any paint or sealants. • Duct tape may be of varying colors for creativity but must have come manufactured in said color. • Boats may be a maximum width of 60” (5ft) and a maximum length of 84” (7ft). • Boats must be completed enclosed, or permit the crew to remain fully on top of the vessel (You are not permitted to have dangling extremities). • The boat’s passenger area must not be enclosed above the occupant’s shoulders so as to interfere with escape should the vessel begin to sink. • Boats must be propelled by the use of cardboard paddles. ✓ Paddles must meet the same construction requirements as the boats (cardboard and duct tape only). • Boat design is left to the builders. Let your imagination take over; make your boat look like a race car, flying saucer, dragon, etc. Crew costumes are permitted. • If any illegal items used in construction are discovered during the pre- or post– race inspection, the boat will be disqualified. ▪ Prohibited Materials- sharp objects, staples, dangerous or polluting materials, oil based paints, plastic, laminate, foam, fiberglass, rubber, wood, metal, rope, or any other structural or floatation materials. ▪ People Powered Paddle Propulsion only. Cardboard paddles only. No scoop paddles will be allowed. ▪ The boat must be clearly marked with its name. Awards ▪ 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place to boats that cross finish line first. ▪ Creativity Award Boats will be judged on design, appearance, and originality. Appearance may include consideration for costumes worn by the boat crew. ▪ The Titanic Award Given to the most spectacular sinking.
