The McMinn County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) is hosting a sporting clay tournament on Friday, March 7, at Benton Sporting Clays in Charleston, Tennessee. This is a great opportunity to network with other businesses or enjoy some quality time with your friends while supporting McMinn County's economic development initiatives.

“This event is open to the public, so anyone who enjoys shooting clay targets is welcome to attend,” says Lindsey Ferguson, Executive Director of MCEDA. “This is our first time doing anything like this, and we’re excited by the response from members and the public.”

Participants are encouraged to register in advance to reserve their space. MCEDA members receive discounts for the event.

Registration Includes Four Participating Team Members

Registering for the MCEDA sporting clays tournament includes four-member teams, a golf cart, and lunch. The event kicks off at 8 a.m. and runs through a 15-stand, 100-sporting clay course. This beautiful course challenges shooters to hone their skills.

Registration for the tournament does not include shotgun shells. You will need around 120 shotgun shells to complete the course. Benton Sporting Clays sells shotgun shells that you can use.

While you are welcome to join just for fun, MCEDA will be handing out trophies at the end. There will be awards for the Highest Individual Shooter and the Best Overall Team.

“This is a great opportunity for some healthy competition that supports the EDA,” says Ferguson. “You can showcase your shooting skills while getting away from the office for the day.”

Learn About MCEDA While Shooting Sporting Clays

While the focus of the event will be on hitting clay targets and having fun, this tournament also provides opportunities for business owners and individuals to learn about MCEDA and its plans for 2025. Members can discuss the goals of MCEDA while non-members can learn more about what the organization does. If you have ever wondered how the county EDA differs from local chambers of commerce, now is a great time to ask.

“MCEDA grows strong through the development of local community partnerships,” says Ferguson. “The better we all work together, the more we can bring opportunities to the region. Through job creation, population growth, and local investment, we all want to see McMinn County thrive.”

Now is a Great Time to Become a Member

If you have been on the fence about joining the MCEDA, now is a great time to register. Membership tiers vary depending on your business size and budget. Small businesses and individual members can join for as little as $250 per year. Larger businesses also have options if they want to offer more support. Members can save $65 in registration costs for the sporting clays tournament, so the investment immediately pays off.

“As a member-driven organization, we rely on local businesses and community groups for support,” says Ferguson. “But this also gives businesses a much louder voice. Our job is to listen to businesses and develop plans to better meet their needs. Your membership can shape McMinn County’s future.”
