Mayfield Dairy Farms is keeping busy with milk and ice cream | Made in Tennessee

ATHENS, Tenn. (WVLT) -- There's a chance you're drinking milk or eating ice cream that was made in East Tennessee, and you don't even realize it.

At Mayfield Diary Farms in Athens, Tennessee, producing milk and ice cream is steeped in family tradition. The Mayfield family started milking cows and making ice cream as early as 1910, and only slowed down during World War II. After the war the family focused heavily on producing high quality milk and bought a state-of-the-art machine to produce it. After that, the taste did the talking.

"Our milk lasted longer. It was really a great quality product," president of Mayfield Dairy Farms, Scottie Mayfield said. "And we just started growing because our milk was outlasting any competitors milk."

It wasn't just the milk that made Mayfield a popular name in the southeast. The company started making ice cream that was just as popular. The production expanded from Athens, Tennessee, to Atlanta, Georgia. It also produces out of Birmingham, Alabama as well.... Read More
