What does it mean to be the subject of a witch hunt? American Witches explores this question.
By creating posthumous portraits of the accused from the 1692 Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts and positioning them next to images of the modern witch near amusement culture, I seek to peel back the layers of performance, entertainment, engagement, and corruptions that creates an "other" in the form of our own neighbors.
Adam Romano is a fine artist, curator, and retired tattooist. He shows at galleries in the United States and lives in Chattanooga, TN.
He was born in Chicago, IL, raised in the carnival business, and has lived around the United States.
Adam completed a traditional tattoo apprenticeship then traveled to develop as an artist. He has owned a studio and researched the history of tattoos as well as grief in modern society. Adam retired from tattooing in2022. He has won over 25 awards for fine art & tattooing and has been published in national and international books and magazines. Adam completed a bachelor’s degree in art and has shown in galleries, museums, and private collections.
His fine art has been featured in over 33 art exhibitions.
